A FINE ITALIAN VIOLIN BY GIOVANNI BATTISTA ROGERI, BRESCIA, LATE 17th CENTURY
* Sold with a certificate from Reuning & Son Violins, Boston. Dendrochronology confirms the youngest ring of the treble and bass sides of the top as 1672. A written report is available from Peter Ratcliffe. Also sold with a sales receipt and certificate from W. E. Hill & Sons, London (19 December 1966), ascribing the violin to Maggini. Illustrated in "The Strad" magazine March 1954 and "Violins and Violinists" September-October 1958 as by Maggini, copies of which are included with this lot. |
