Born at Rothesay (Scotland), 1832. Worked there, and at Glasgow. Died 1894. Called the “Scottish Stradivari”. Quite excellent modelling; first instrument dated 1880. Made 90 violins, violas and ’cellos - many valued at £30 in his lifetime.
