 Henry Thomas Adams, born in 1873. Took up violin-making 1904. Model invariably follows the Stradivarius, particularly the outline, but the arching is slightly fuller though not too pronounced. Scroll fearlessly carved, suggesting the large Amati design. Aimed at a compromise between power and sweetness in tone which is penetrating with not the slightest touch of harshness, and easily produced. Players of the future will appreciate these qualities. Wood always attractive, the maker preferring pine of fairly wide reed and Scotch sycamore.
