Gabriele Jebran Yakoub was born in St. Petersburg in 1978. His first cello lessons he recieved from his mother at age four. His cello career has included solo, chamber and orchestral performances with leading conductors and soloists in many orchestras and festivals. Since 1999 to 2005 he was a member of the West-Eastern Divan Orchestra, created and leaded by world famous pianist and conductor Daniel Barenboim.
With this orchestra he performed in concerts in the State Opera House in Berlin, Teatro de la Maestranza in Seville, Victoria Hall in Geneva, Royal Albert Hall and Barbican Hall in London, Strasbourg, Ronda and Weimer (with the participation of YoYo Ma). He performed in the Apple Hill Chamber Music Worshop (USA) and Telluride Chamber
Music Festival (USA).
Mr Yakoub began his violin-making studies in Russia with master violin maker Vladimir Kitov, First Prize winner of the Tchaikovsky International Violin-Making Competition. Mr. Yakoub transferred to Cremona, Italy to continue his studies at the Scuola Internationale di Liuteria “Antonio Stradivari” (IPIALL). He was a student of the most important violin makers in the modern Italian school including: Gio Batta Morassi, Giorgio Scolari, Alessandro Voltini, Claudio Omigetti, Piero Aromatico and Luca Bellini.
His instruments are currently played in major symphony orchestras including Staatkapelle Berlin, Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra, The Hague Symphony Orchestra, West Eastern Divan Orchestra, Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Bolshoi Theatre Orchestra, St.Petersburg Philharmonic Orchestra, Mariinsky Theatre Orchestra, Croatian Radio and Television Orchestra, Moscow Symphony Orchestra, Moscow Philharmonic Orchestra as well as by the Atrium String Quartet.
Soloists play his instruments in Argentina, Australia, China, Croatia, Egypt, Finland, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Korea, Lebanon, Norway, Portugal, Russia, Spain, Syria and USA.
Mr. Yakoub has had experience as a violin maker with world-leading musicians including Mstislav Rostropovich, Natalia Gutman, Gidon Kremer, Vladimir Spivakov, Samuel Magad, Mischa Maisky, Sergej Krylov, Janine Jansen, Maxim Rysanov, Julian Rachlin and Alexander Buzlov.
He works as a trusted violin maker and restorer for Barenboim-Said Foundation in Berlin and the Fondazione Maestro in Cremona. Mr. Yakoub is a member of Milanese cultural assocation Solidarte.
Since 2006 Mr.Yakoub is based in Berlin, having affiliate activities and partnership with leading workshops in Cremona, St. Petersburg, Moscow and Zagreb.
