The then twenty year old Zhu Ming-Jiang was admitted to Guangzhou Violin Making School in 1976, a professional training ground with faculty members Liang Guo-Hui and Xu Fu. Zhu was an art student which contributed to his endeavor in luthiery. He graduated with top honors and was retained as a teaching staff, and he continued receiving guidance from Maestro Liang. As a professional luthier, he has obtained many awards and distinctions:
1986, 1990: VSA Certificates of merit for violin workmanship. 1991: established own Zhu Ming-Jiang Studio.
1992: at the 10th VSA competition, awarded CM for violin tone, violin workmanship, viola workmanship.
1994: at the 11 th VSA competition, awarded a gold medal for violin and a CM for viola
workmanship.
1996: at the 12th VSA competition, awarded a silver medal for viola, CM for violin tone, CM for violin workmanship. 1998: at the 13th VSA competition, awarded a CM violin workmanship.
2000: at the 14th VSA competition, awarded a silver medal for violin workmanship.
2002: at the 15th VSA competition, awarded a CM viola workmanship.
He holds the distinction as the Chinese maker with the highest number and top awards given by the VSA. He was hailed by the Time magazine as ' .. .amongst the top 5% of first class violin makers.'
