He learned violin playing as a child， and entered Violin-Making School of Tokyo， Japan， in 1986， where he was mentored by Soroku Murara ,the premier violin maker in Japan. In the years following， he studied Stradivari's decorated violins also under Maestro Murata， and also guided by his father-in-law， the Chinese master luthier Sheng Cai.Mr. Lai is the first person in Japan who produced violin-making video programs， and broadcasted them
