Zhang was raised in a family much interested in classical music .he was enrolled in the violin school in Cremona Italy in 1985. His teachers there were Riccardo Bergonzi and Gio Batta Morassi and in Maestro Morassi's studio he apprenticed. He placed 6th, vioin division, in the International Violin Making Competition held in Baveno in 1989.Returning to Taiwan , he established his own studio in Taibei where his works are receiving high acclaims. During 1998,Yo.Yo Ma's cello was brought to his shop , when the instrument's neck was damaged during tansit.Mr.Ma was much relieved when Zhang repaired the cello in short order.
