THURLOW, Alfred John(1884-1969) One of Brisbane's prominent business identities. Made his first violin in 1942 under tuition of Howard F. Sleath and to 1965 had made 34 violins and 3 violas. Each instrument numbered at endpin. Awarded trophies at the Qld Industries Fair in 1955, 1959 and 1962. Mostly used traditional timbers but a few have some Queensland woods. Also may have applied the principles of violin making advocated by W. Farrell.
