Carlo Vettori was born in Firenzuola, near Florence, on November 2nd, 1940. Son and pupil of master violin maker Dario Vettori "the mountain violin maker". He learned the art of violin making in his father's workshop and perfected his art with master Giuseppe Ornati. At the age of sixteen, on the 16th of May, 1956, he won his first gold medal and the National Competition of Pegli, (Genoa). n 1959 he left his father's workshop and established himself in Florence where he entered the circle of the most famous Florentine violin makers. He gained extensive knowledge of the various Italian schools of the past from master violin maker Silvio Vezio Paoletti. On commission to master violin maker Carlo Bisiach, he carried out important restorations of antique instruments. He subsequently received many awards and prizes in conferences dealing with violin making. In national competitions, he won seven gold medals, three silver medals and two cash prizes, including that of Bagnacavallo in 1982 and a career award in Baveno, in 2001. A member of the A.N.L.A.I. Board of Experts, he was Ielected vice president in 1985 where he gained much esteem from his colleagues for his analysis and expertise of antique instruments.   His instruments are played by famous international concert artists and in major orchestras throughout the world. Instruments made by Carlo Vettori have been put up by major auction houses in London, and purchased by professional musicians, dealers and collectionists from all over the world. His instruments are illustrated in international publications that speak of the classic Italian school. To this day his personal production is remarkable: 250 violins, 60 violas, 24 cellos, 4 quartets, one quintet, a sextet and other instruments such as viole d'amore, viole da gamba, lutes, hurdy-gurdies, guitars, modern and baroque bows. In the year 2005 he wrote the book "Quartets of Italian violin making" published by Arte Liutaria.
