Marco Osio was born in Manerbio (in the Brescia province) on 22th. of December 1976.
In 1990 he began to study at the International Violinmaking School of Cremona where he graduated under the direction of M° Giorgio Scolari.
After completing his studies he met Gio Batta Morassi ,who is the most important protagonist of the contemporary violin-making in Cremona, and his son Simeone of those he becam pupil. Under their guidance he improved his technique.
He makes violins, violas and cellos using classical Cremonese models (Stradivari, Guarneri, Amati); he also makes use of a 1929 Ornati model for the violin.
He just uses high quality and seasonated wood, dedicating special attention to the sound quality. He employes spirit varnish, carefully preparated by a personal research, of orange-brown color with golden reflection underneath.
His participation in important competition has brought him many prizes and recognitions:
- 1999: bronze medal for a Cello in Baveno national competition (Italy).
- 2001: gold medal for a violin and silver medal for a viola in Baveno national competition (Italy).
- 2001: finalist with a violin in Wieniawski international competition of Poznan (Poland).
- 2002: third prize and special prize for the workmanship with a viola in Tchaikowsky international competition of Moscow (Russia).
- 2003: honorary mention with a viola in Triennale international competition of Cremona (Italy).
- 2004: 4th. place and crystal cup with a violin for the best violinmaker under 30 years in Metelka international competition of Nachod (Czech Rep.).
- 2005: 4th. place and special prize w dith a viola in Mittenwald international competition (Germany).
- 2006: 5th. place with a violin in Arvenzis international competition of Dolny Kubin (Slovakia).
- 2006: 5th. place and honorary mention with a viola at Triennale international competition of Cremona (Italy).
-2007: - second place, bronze medal and special prize for the best technical and artistic quality with a viola in Tchaikowsky International competition of Moscow (Russia).
-2008: 3rd. prize with a violin in Metelka international competition of Nachod (Czech Rep.)
-2009: second prize with a viola at the European Competition "Eufonia" (Sofia- Brussels).
Untill 2004 he worked with the colleague Luca Bellini in Cremona on via Beltrami 28.
In 2005 he opened his new workshop located on via Bardellona 9, Cremona.
He is member of A.L.I. (Italian violinmakers association).
His instruments are played all around the world, particulary in China, Japan, Taiwan and U.S.A.
