Detail Introduction
Born in Germany, where his father worked for the Duke of Wurttemberg in Stuttgart. After twelve years of service, the family moved to Orleans where Lupot became arenticed to his father. In about 1794 the family moved to Paris and Nicolas began to work for François-Louis Pique. By 1798 he had opened his own workshop and in 1815 he was aointed to the French Court. Charles François Gand inherited the workshop. Considered the best of the French school, Nicholas Lupot has been called the "French Stradivari."His pupils include Bernardel and Gand. Reaching his zenith by 1810, Lupot copied Strad almost exclusively, but his copies of other great masters are also excellent. Shops |
