Robert Ames 曾在William Salchow纽约的工作室当过车间工长，在此期间，他制作了大概200多支琴弓。他还学习了维修，修复精品琴弓，研究学习了法国，英国和德国制弓师们优秀的作品。1978年离开William Salchow成立了自己的工作室。
Robert是位于NJ， Fort Lee 的Robert Ames, Fine Violins and Bows, LLC公司独立经营者，他曾在1980年纽约Hempstead Hofstra 大学举办的国际提琴，琴弓竞赛中获得较高的荣誉，1982年还在Salt Lake City, Utah的比赛中获得荣誉。无论是销售，修复维修精品的Stradivari ，Tourte琴，弓或者是学生琴，弓，他都始终充满着热情。
他同时还是3个知名的国际组织成员： The American Federation of Violin and Bow Makers, Entente Internationale des Luthiers et Archetiers, and the Violin Society of America.
